Heavy rainfall over the weekend exceeded the City of Frederick Wastewater Treatment Plant’s capacity, causing overflow of wastewater, starting at about noon on Sunday.
The overflow is occurring in front of the Wastewater Treatment Plant into Carroll Creek, immediately upstream of the Monocacy River. The State of Maryland Department of the Environment and Health Department have been notified.
Signs have been posted cautioning the public to avoid the area where the overflow is occurring. The drinking water supply is not affected by this incident, and the City’s water supply is safe for all uses.
